Carolina Wren Babies

I realize that this is not a terribly good photo, but they were quite well hidden in that flower pot!  The next time I peeped in ... they had flown.

The Carolina Wren Family

I have a family of Carolina Wrens who have built a nest in a flowerpot which is just outside my front door. As you can see in the above photo, a Daddy Longlegs spider is about to become lunch.

This is the flowerpot where the nest is hidden. The parents are doing an amazing job. They hunt for bugs all the time and one will keep watch (usually with a bug in his/her beak) while the other feeds, and then they'll switch jobs. I have a feeling these should be very well-fed wren babies.

This time I fear a butterfly has met its match. Looks like breakfast will be colorful this morning.
